Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Give it time, and eventually everyone that crosses paths with Baby will be putting her in the corner. Just my opinion.
Well what?
SPEAKER_06It is. You do a fantastic job. You bite your tongue. You make this hair look good. So clearly you can do anything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's a good thing.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's like George Hamilton. When he was like 12, he'd already slept with his stepmother. Now that's someone that can do anything. So you're there you go, you're in the same league as George Hamilton. Congratulations. Not everyone can say that, Megan.
SPEAKER_02Thanks. I'll take it. Yeah. That was a good one.
SPEAKER_03This wonderful show and uh welcome. We are talking about dirty dancing. I'm very excited about this. I say this about pretty much every film that we do, but I am very excited about it.
SPEAKER_06That makes one of us.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we um we hadn't been able to record for a while because you know life is life and and we don't have sponsors yet. So hey sponsors, if you're out there and you want to hear more of this, come join us. Definitely make us a part of you. I'll say yeah showing you off.
SPEAKER_06Let's make this a a a business relationship. Yeah. Business partnership.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. So um yeah, I I know I say this about every movie we do, but um yeah, this movie has become a generational film being a pivotal film and displaying a romantic story of star cross lovers or lovers from different worlds, so to say. The boy who makes his own path and the girl whose path is laid out in front of her, high class versus middle class to low class, etc. But this romantic story where she made pretty decent choices. She stayed true to her values, yes, may have lied, but overall her character wasn't truly tarnished. A story where the girl gets the bad boy and she ultimately gets the respect she wanted from her dad, not to mention the guy, or the not to mention, the guy wasn't a bad guy either. So let me tell you guys, when Mick sent me a text asking me why women love this film so much, I couldn't even begin to tap into the the why in the back room of my work while I was like waiting for my clients' highlights. Um but yeah, I'm excited to chat about this film. And even though we are in different times, we can still very much appreciate the romance of this film. It still gives me all the feels. Mick, your turn.
SPEAKER_06Okay. So I watched this movie probably about four times to get ready for this episode. No no different than any other norm. Yeah. I mean, I just I I I I have a process, okay? And I'll watch it once just to watch it, and then I'll watch it again well pretty much just to watch it again, and then by around the third time, I'm taking notes. And then um I watched this again for the fourth time just last night. And Megan was just like, Do you really need to watch this again? I'm like, no, I don't think so. I just I mean, I I do not for the life of me understand why this movie is considered such a classic. And I'm not even saying that all women love this film. I've met a few guys where I actually had a guy who a friend of mine who I'll out of respect for him, I'll leave his name out of it. But he actually said to me, He's like, I told him, I was like, Man, I don't know about dirty dancing. It's just I don't know, it's it's a little bit too much for me. I never really saw why it blew so many skirts up. I just don't get it. And he's like, no, he's like, dude, screw you. He's like, I will fight you over dirty dancing. I'm like, oh, all right, okay, take it easy.
SPEAKER_03It's such a romantic film. It's so great. You have the dancing, you have, I mean, there's so many elements that make it a good film. Not only uh, you know, what the storyline is about, but the fact that the characters, the music, the like the music or the dancing isn't too corny. It's not anything. Like it's amazing dancing that is like gone through the test of time. What is oh god, I was trying to Google it on my drive here or think of it. Um the movie where she does she's the ballerina and she like goes into urban life because her her like mom dies or whatever. Flash dance? No, it's kind of like that, but like the newer, it's in it was in the 2000s. Julia Styles was in it. Do you know what I'm talking about?
SPEAKER_06Uh I do not.
SPEAKER_03Uh, I'll find it.
SPEAKER_06I'll find it when I get a chance to, but I had a big crush on Julia Styles back in the day.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she's she's cute.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. But is it true that she went through like a little bit of a meth addiction?
SPEAKER_03I don't know. Do you know that she was in fact a real um dancer, ballerina dancer, uh at Juilliard, I think. Really? Originally. Or she had that potential, or she was that level, something in that. Don't quote me on this.
SPEAKER_06Thought she looked familiar.
SPEAKER_03Definitely Google it. I went to Juilliard for a time, so definitely Google that.
SPEAKER_06Then they realized I wasn't a student, so they thought we'd get out of it.
SPEAKER_04She doesn't even go here.
SPEAKER_06Well, that is not that's no reason to kick me out. So yeah, I mean, I just this movie for me, I don't know, it does bring back not all negative memories. There was, you know, when I was a kid and it was just uh my ma and my brother and my sister, you know, on Sunday mornings, yeah, we didn't really have a whole lot, and my sister was the oldest out of us three, and it was my mom, and there were two movies that stand out where it's just like, look, it's Sunday morning, it's kind of a you know a relaxing day. We don't have a whole lot going on. They wanted to put on a movie, and it was one of two main movies that I want to say dominated Sunday mornings. This one and Steel Magnolis. Now you know I'll ride hard for Steel Magnolies.
SPEAKER_03I will never, ever, ever I will too, because I also starred in the local local play of it.
SPEAKER_06You all were incredible, I'm telling you right now.
SPEAKER_03Oh, we had an incredible director.
SPEAKER_06Yes, you certainly did. Yeah, some fucking idiot did the voiceover for the DJ. I that that guy we did not need that guy.
SPEAKER_03I mean, he was all right. But like I don't know, I thought like a beautiful magnolia, uh, this relationship and friendship blossomed. I got to know Megan and all the girls and you, and now this. This is fun. So there you go.
SPEAKER_06So yeah, so I'll I'll ride hard for steel magnolias, but this one, I just I mean, I was little when they would put this on. Like when you guys are watching Dirty Dancing again, it's like, you know, I think I got like some Legos that need some attention or something like that. Go anything, anything but sitting through this movie again.
SPEAKER_03I was cooking dinner when I was watching this, um, and in my kitchen, so I had it on my phone. I had my AirPods in, uh, my husband is somewhere, my son is somewhere, and I'm making dinner, and I am just dancing the whole entire time. Uh all the music is so fantastic, and I'm like, oh, oh my god, oh and oh, and he's just and look at her go and love her.
SPEAKER_06You like so many other women out there, you you bow down to the Swayze. I'm gonna guess Don Swayze, uh his brother Jennifer Gray, too.
SPEAKER_03She's just so beautiful, she's just so beautiful in this film. Really? I uh yeah.
SPEAKER_06I guess she was like 27 when she did this movie.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06I mean, she's yeah, she did not look 27. I will say that. She's older than she looks.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so we got our info. Let's go into this. Play that trailer.
SPEAKER_06All right, let's get to the trailer.
SPEAKER_09The music dancing. That's the picture. It will be just another stuff of the picture. I don't want you to have anything to do with those people again, baby. I'll see you running daddy tell me what you can.
SPEAKER_00Well, I would my father exploded him. I will tell him what's going on.
SPEAKER_09I don't believe you, baby. She chose him all evening.
SPEAKER_00I'm scared of everything, dude. Most of all, I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life.
SPEAKER_09What they learned from each other's do good to be wrong. Dirty Death Starring Patrick Soyez, Jennifer Bray, and Cynthia Rose. Get ready for the time of your life.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, apparently that song won an Oscar. So technically, this movie is an award-winning film. Because that song, I guess, won the Oscar for best song.
SPEAKER_03I did not know that, but I believe it because it was such a great soundtrack.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, and I'm also it's uh, you know, you hear that song, you think of this movie.
SPEAKER_06True. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03These are signs of this being a classic film. I want you to know this.
SPEAKER_06You go right ahead. You go ahead and keep thinking that. This country is that god given.
SPEAKER_04These are signs of this being a classic film.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Well, we're gonna have to redefine classic then, apparently. Dirty Dancing was released August 21st, 1987. It was written by Eleanor Bergstein. Or Bergstein? Bergstein.
SPEAKER_03I feel like it's a Stein. Yeah, Bergstein.
SPEAKER_06Excuse me, sorry about that. And directed by Emile Ardellino. It stars Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Gray, Jerry Orbach, Cynthia Rhodes, Jane Brucker, and Kelly Bishop. It's the summer of 1963, and 17-year-old Frances Baby Housem, played by Jennifer Gray, is on her way to Kellerman's Mountain House Resort for a summer vacation, along with her sister, Lisa, played by Jane Brucker, her mom Marge, played by Kelly Bishop, and her dad, Dr. Jake Housman, played by Jerry Orbach. And I just want to say right now, love me some Jerry Orbach.
SPEAKER_03Yep. I mean, yeah, law and order all the way.
SPEAKER_06Excellent. Yep, definitely.
SPEAKER_03That that should have been a cue. Opportunity missed.
SPEAKER_06Screw the pooch on that one. Totally could have had a cool soundbite for that. Later that same evening after arriving, while baby is wandering the resort grounds, she eavesdrops on a conversation between the resort owner and his weight staff. And the resort owner is a fucking prick in my opinion. I want to get that out there right now.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06He talks to his staff like absolute shit.
SPEAKER_03He's on my dislike list for sure. Mr. Kellerman. Yeah. I don't I don't care what your history is. Yeah. With uh what's his name?
SPEAKER_06Fat rich asshole.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Uh with Jerry is it, yeah. I don't care what that is. Dr. Hellsman, yep. Yes. I don't care about the history there because yeah, he was just a dick. He's telling his weight staff, uh, you know, uh, B, you even gotta like, you know, hit on the dogs, flirt with the dogs, get it done, get those tips, and then the dancers come in. Oh, no, the entertainment is here, staff is here.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, the weight staff's allowed to fuck the daughters, but not you, Johnny.
SPEAKER_03Not you, not you. Conversation that's it.
SPEAKER_06It's like, listen, they're there.
SPEAKER_03Leave the women to them.
SPEAKER_06I would have looked at him and been like, fuck off, Churchill.
SPEAKER_03The Harvard boys, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we'll get into that.
SPEAKER_03The frat boys. That's what it is. It's the frat boys.
SPEAKER_06Yep.
SPEAKER_03Here's your pool.
SPEAKER_06So between the resort owner and his wait staff, and it is here where she first lays eyes on Johnny Castle.
SPEAKER_03And I know you wouldn't have the sound bit for Patrick Swayze. I know you wouldn't have the sound bit for the swooning or the woo-woo. I can't really whistle, but oh, Patrick Swayze. I will do it. I will be the sound bit, Patrick Swayze.
SPEAKER_06There you go. That's about the best sound bit I've ever heard.
SPEAKER_03Yum.
SPEAKER_06Really?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06Patrick Swayze.
SPEAKER_03Oh my god, yes.
SPEAKER_06Uh I mean, well, back in the day, um, yeah, a lot of Oh, and his dance moves. He was a hell of a dancer. No doubt about that. I I gotta give credit uh where credit's due. Yeah. I'm not a dancer at all. I yeah. I think I'm probably even a worse dancer than I am singer. I love dancing. I mean, man. All these talents that I don't have. The fuck good am I? What am I doing with my life here, Megan? What have I got going on? What legacy am I gonna leave behind?
SPEAKER_03I don't know. That seems like a you problem.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it is. It is. It's something I gotta figure out. So, Johnny Castle, played by Patrick Swayze, a slightly rebellious and bad boyish member of the entertainment staff and dance teacher at Kellerman's.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Patrick Swayze is so freaking gorgeous in this movie.
SPEAKER_06Was he more gorgeous in this or in ghost?
SPEAKER_03Uh oh, that's a toss-up. But this is like, uh, he also came off like way older than he, you know, is in the movie. And I think it was the slacks or the pants. I don't know why they call him slacks or whatever, but the nice pants, the dress pants he had on, just made him so much older. Yeah. You know, you were like, oh, he's 30.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I I don't know why uh why they call him slacks either. But you're talking to a guy who's probably gonna be wearing jeans and a t-shirt when he's in his 70s, so yeah, nothing wrong with it.
SPEAKER_03Nope. Nothing wrong with it.
SPEAKER_06There is some dude around town here that I saw um a few years ago that was he was an older white guy dressed like a straight cholo. I'm not kidding.
SPEAKER_03I don't I don't know what that okay.
SPEAKER_06Um, like got the fedora hat, got the flannel shirt on with the top button button, but the rest unbuttoned.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_06Like and he, I mean, he was like an older guy. Okay and he's got like the gloves with the tips of the fingers cut off, and he's all doing like the where he got the thumbs up, almost kind of like finger guns, but he's all doing the hand movements and shit.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_06So yeah, so now you know what a cholo is.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_06This guy was dr dressed like a straight cholo. I thought it was hilarious. I always thought it was funny. I always wanted to ask him, like, why are you dressed like a cholo?
SPEAKER_03Uh Jacksonville, uh, you know, you he had a lot of different characters. And then I always I always appreciated the women that were like 1940s, 1960s, like these retro women that would have their hair like that, would have dresses kind of shaped like that, and that silhouette.
SPEAKER_06Is that a southern thing or is that just a Jacksonville thing?
SPEAKER_03I well, I mean, I don't know, but it's it was a 40s thing. It was it's like I mean, I'm not complaining.
SPEAKER_06That's kind of cool.
SPEAKER_0340s to 60s kind of look.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like that housewife, old housewife, stepford wife kind of look, but you know, um, very pinup, pinup kind of still sexy, but still classy, that sort of thing.
SPEAKER_06Oh, okay. All right.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Okay. Um, you got more here. You got a little bit more.
SPEAKER_03Uh no, I mean, that's that's all I was okay.
SPEAKER_06Baby again encounters Johnny when she ends up at an afterwork staff party where she sees him owning the dance floor with his longtime friend, dance partner, dance partner, and fellow dance instructor Penny, played by Cynthia Rhodes.
SPEAKER_03Ooh, swoon for Penny. The little sexy leg thing she does. That was when she's dancing.
SPEAKER_06That was pretty.
SPEAKER_03Oh, she's so pretty.
SPEAKER_06She was. I don't think I've ever seen her in anything else.
SPEAKER_03I don't recall, but I mean, she's gorgeous, and I loved her.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, she was.
SPEAKER_03I loved her little accent. She had to baby, baby, you don't know nothing about my life, baby.
SPEAKER_06Oh god. So yeah, well, now that you mention it, I don't think I particularly enjoyed that accent at all. Baby eventually learns that Penny is pregnant and looking to have an abortion for multiple reasons. And those being one, she's not ready to be a mom. Uh, the father is a member of the wait staff, a young pre-med student by the name of Robbie Gold, who, by the way, is a complete and total unlikable prick for those of you who have not seen this movie. And also, she will most likely lose her job if management finds out about the pregnancy.
SPEAKER_03Not in 2026.
SPEAKER_06Exactly.
SPEAKER_03Oh, the times that we had to deal with as women.
SPEAKER_06Oh, you mean about a good 24 years before you were alive?
SPEAKER_03Hey, whatever, my people.
SPEAKER_06Solidarity. I love it. Yeah, give it up. I'm down, I'm down. Solidarity. Okay. I'm not a woman, but hey, I get what you're saying. I love it.
SPEAKER_03I have to say this real quick. I just went through, I am 40, so I was uh supporting my friend, and uh, she does pelvic floor therapy. Um, she's amazing. And so she was teaching this like kind of class last night, educational class, with her nurse practitioner friend um who specializes in hormones, and we were talking about women and like the roller coaster is what our estrogen is. It's like kind of all over the place. Literally, and like men just kind of do this natural withdrawal from the stuff.
SPEAKER_06If you could just do that one more time, just do that whole roller coaster. I I just I want to hear it one more time.
SPEAKER_03Wow, wow.
SPEAKER_06The first time was better.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean it was OG. Yeah, uh, it was with heart. Oh yeah. But yeah, I was just like the old older you get, man, you know, the things you have to go through as a woman. I can't believe we had the struggle that we had. Fuck that shit. It's 2026. We need to know more. Yeah, it is we need to know more.
SPEAKER_06I'm not gonna bullshit you. You are right. It is it is actually kind of unfair because men's testosterone just I mean, you're right, it just like slightly decreases year after year. I mean, it it does, it decreases, but only slightly, year after year.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean, you guys slowly go through kind of the same emotions, just not incredible highs and incredible lows. Right. And it literally is this. I mean, she showed a chart.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and it's it's for medicine.
SPEAKER_03At some point, they just both flatline. Hey, that's nature. Yeah, nothing. Yeah, yeah. It was scary. It was scary. I was like, oh shit, I'm 40. I got 50, 50 more years, hopefully, of life.
SPEAKER_06You're aiming high.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, aim high.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm not sure. I think I'll probably I'll probably split probably around late 70s, early 80s.
SPEAKER_03That's my husband. He's always like, I I know I'm gonna go before you. I know I'm gonna go before you.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I'm like, I don't know, man.
SPEAKER_06I'm going before Megan. That's just how that's just the nature of the beast.
SPEAKER_03Talking about being a hairstylist for 20 more years, like, oh my body.
SPEAKER_06Well yeah. That's me praying. So my line of work, man, I'm on I mean, my job is not a physically taxing job, but I'm on my feet pretty much all day. Which is why I sit there and I you know when people ask me, like, well, what the hell'd you go back to Monday through Fridays for? I'm like, I'm pretty sure you just answered your own question there, dude. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I don't work inside the plant, I don't get to sit down for most of the day. I'm usually up and mobile. The fucking younger generation do that shit. I'm done, man.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I ain't gonna look this good forever. I gotta start taking a little care of myself. Mick's gotta look out for Mick. Uh-huh. That's right. And Megan's gotta look out for Megan. Cheers.
SPEAKER_03Cheers.
SPEAKER_06Okay, now getting back to business. The only available time for Penny to have the procedure falls on the night when her and Johnny are supposed to perform a dance routine at another nearby hotel. Knowing this, Baby volunteers or is kind of volunteered to f uh to fill in for Penny, despite the fact that Baby does not know the first thing. About dancing. And I have to say, when she first arrives at that party with uh Johnny's derpy ass cousin who just kind of stands there and just looks freaking clueless the entire time, she is like in awe at the dancing. I gotta admit, when that dancing was hot, sure beats the shit out of all the freaking foxtrots and all that shit that they had all the old farts doing at the resort.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah, you know, and and a time when that that was huge, you know? Yeah gyrating, hip movement, wiggling. Yeah. No go.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, no go.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no go.
SPEAKER_06That's why they would film uh Elvis from the waist up on the Ed Sullivan show.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06Because his uh his moves were too much. Too much. A little too much for the thing. Too much for the women.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Oh my god, they could have worked it out, you know, where like the electronic store got to like have a sale on TVs because the women probably broke them during the performance.
SPEAKER_08Well, that is a very good thing.
SPEAKER_04Because women women could not sustain themselves. Like, that's the deviousness. They could not like handle the hip.
SPEAKER_06Well, sometimes just a little bit of deviant behaviors.
SPEAKER_03A time of fainting. A time of fainting. You thrusted your hip at them and they fainted.
SPEAKER_06They weren't used to seeing that sort of thing.
SPEAKER_04Just insane.
SPEAKER_06It's all just very proper back then.
SPEAKER_04Way to go, Gen Z, for like regulating sex and the conversation of sex and protection and all those things. Good for you.
SPEAKER_06Couldn't agree more.
SPEAKER_04Good for you.
SPEAKER_06Anything there's not enough. There needs to be more. Lots more. So, as you may have guessed, in the time that Johnny and Baby are working together for her to learn how to dance, their relationship blossoms and they fall in love. Now, who in the hell could have seen that one coming?
SPEAKER_03It's the best. How can you not? When this sexy man, like I said, is moving his hips like that and caressing you, and oh, he's just so sexy. Oh, with his little cap sleeve, rolled up cap sleeve.
SPEAKER_06Oh, that was a style at the time.
SPEAKER_03I know. I know. I know it was.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_03I'm just here for it.
SPEAKER_06You sound like you know. You sound bad.
SPEAKER_03At his little, like, it wasn't even a full mullet, it was a mole. A little, a little mole.
SPEAKER_06I saw a woman with a mullet the other uh not too long ago at the local Walgreens.
SPEAKER_03Was she pulling it off or no?
SPEAKER_06No. No. I thought it was gonna make me vomit, honestly. Did you ever see the movie, um, the show Eastbound and Down?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06Alright. So I saw a woman one time with a Kenny Powers mullet all curly and everything like that. Like I was backing out of the parking space and she was walking by and I stopped and I was just like, I literally felt nauseous. No joke.
SPEAKER_03Let me tell you the struggle of a mullet on a woman when you're a hairstylist and you're like, really?
SPEAKER_06Oh, you've had to come you've had to come close to one?
SPEAKER_03No, I've had to cut one. Like I've had to co-create. And I've had to like try and tie it into like modern. I've been told up, like I've gotten where a mullet kind of okay, I already think we can pull this off. This can be kind of like a shag on you. Like, we've got this. And nobody can pull off a mullet. And then they tell me, but they but these are not women that are trying to pull off a woman. They've had a mullet since the 80s, and they know nothing, you know, nothing different than their country mullet that they had where they used to wear like bedazzled things, and they could probably get away with a little bit of length back there.
SPEAKER_06I just don't understand it. Like, why would one do that? Why would one do that to themselves?
SPEAKER_03I went to school, it was like second grade. Uh, and this girl Bailey, I remember she she was beautiful. She had a beautiful face, beautiful eyes. I remember her eyes and eyelashes. She was really pretty, but she did have a mullet, and it was like a gel-spiked mullet. So like she would have it in a ponytail the rest long, and then the very top was just like gelled spiked. So I never got to see it like in full swing, you know?
SPEAKER_06Oh, you knew but you knew it was there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's like one of those cold. It was what are what are we doing here? Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, what it almost sounds like a Kentucky waterfall.
SPEAKER_03I can't talk. I made very poor decisions, very poor decisions as a child.
SPEAKER_06We all did.
SPEAKER_03Very poor decisions.
SPEAKER_06We all did.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I don't know. And not just with our hair, but yeah.
SPEAKER_04It's like, yes, I am a hairstylist, but that's only because I came from the ugliest of ugly. What? Deep in the depths of the Uggs. I was there. I was born.
SPEAKER_06I I still don't know what you're saying, right?
SPEAKER_03Like I'm saying, like, I was such an ugly duckling, and I mean, I went through these phases of what I thought was cool. And I'll I'll I'll say like I stayed true to myself.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_03But like someone should have intervened if we were taking pictures. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_06Don't feel bad. Well, speaking of taking pictures, don't feel bad. I once wore a Faith Hill t-shirt to school one day. I was surprised I made it throughout the day without getting the shit kicked out of me. The things you'll do to try to impress a girl.
SPEAKER_03But that also would be so cool right now, you know. Like you could get you could Yeah, no. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Sorry, I was Thanks again, Gentiles. It wasn't exactly, you know, 30 years ahead of my time. I just uh that was uh that was a a bad mistake. And it was on picture day, so there's there's proof of it. So I'm not gonna lie. Yeah, that was a bad call on my part. But yes, I like I said, the things with you the things that you'll do to impress a girl.
SPEAKER_03Well, it didn't work. It goes both ways.
SPEAKER_06That's the real big picture.
SPEAKER_03Well, here we have, you know, baby who's gonna learn how to dance to impress a guy.
SPEAKER_06That's right. Yeah. Do you think if uh if people this generation were to watch this movie and be like, oh my god, I cannot believe she's learning to dance for some men.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06They'd probably be way too wrapped up in the whole abortion angle, though, too. So they would just they'd forget about everything else.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. That's a big they. Uh uh, I don't I don't know. But then I yeah, I I think that's a fine I'm when I was dating, let me tell you, if I wanted to learn how to like cook something fancy, I would date a chef if I wanted to learn, you know, these things. No, no, I would meet them on you know, online dating, but that's what I felt like it was. It was kind of like a catalog of like, okay, tonight I would like to do this. I would like this meal.
SPEAKER_06On a night when a grilled cheese and bowl of tomato soup is just not gonna do it, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06All right. So uh Johnny and baby soon find out that Penny's abortion did not go well whatsoever. Baby goes to her father so he can help Penny. And the result of this is him finding out about the relationship between Johnny and his daughter. Jake is not happy about this and orders Baby to not see Johnny or those people ever again.
SPEAKER_04Ugh, the doctor didn't use no ether, nothing.
SPEAKER_06I can hear her screaming from the hallway, Johnny. I tried to get in, I swear. But easy, Barberino.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. And America, this is my statement. America, this is not what we need to go back to. Women, you know, need to make their own choices with their bodies, and we can't be doing it in the closet of some low-level doc's office that is willing to break the law, which also means he's probably willing to kill you. So that's my spiel. He also had a bad cocktail, you know, of like, hey, dad, this is this help this girl who's having who needs an abortion. She got a botched illegal abortion, and you know, this is his friend, and you don't mind if I date him, do you?
SPEAKER_06He's not like his friends, I promise.
SPEAKER_03Do you, Daddy?
SPEAKER_06He's got a really good head on his shoulders. He just, you know, his friends are the fuck-ups, not him.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Sure, baby, you can you can date him. He's a great dancer.
SPEAKER_08Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we should probably uh touch down on the fact that Dr. Hausman does not like Johnny at first because when he asks who's responsible for this girl, Johnny says, I am. Because in a way he is. Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Dr.
SPEAKER_06Hausman being half awake.
SPEAKER_03That's his ride or die, you know. He takes that since they were little.
SPEAKER_06Exactly. And he takes that as, oh, okay, so you got her, you got her pregnant, and then you didn't want to deal with it because you're not man enough, so you sent her to some freaking second rate doctor.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, and we're all guilty of it too, of just like jumping to conclusions, you know? Like we do it, we have arguments in our own head, and then like we get faced with the reality of the moment, and we're like, oh, that wasn't that wasn't as bad as I thought that was gonna go.
SPEAKER_06Yep. And it's at that time where they called getting a woman pregnant was referred to as getting her in trouble.
SPEAKER_03Yes. So yeah. Dr.
SPEAKER_06Hausman rules. And his his bed, even he's half awake and he's on vacation, bedside manners.
SPEAKER_03I loved his character. I loved him. I love Jerry who played him. I just loved everything about him. And, you know, I was like, oh what a great dad.
SPEAKER_06He is.
SPEAKER_03He was. He was a great dad.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's why baby was trying to look for someone. But no, she was convinced she would never find someone as great as her daddy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I mean her sister was a little bitter, but you know, that's that's another story.
SPEAKER_06Oh it's um uh Lisa, right?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06Oh god, her sister is gonna get me started on her.
SPEAKER_03She is just Wacka Hawaka.
SPEAKER_06That scene is so stupid. I'm sorry, that scene is awful. And then what does she do at the end of the song? She just kind of falls down on her knees.
SPEAKER_04Even Wayne Knight, even the guy telling the corny jokes, is walking in the background being like she walks up to her sister and she's like, I think tonight's night I'm gonna have sex with Robbie.
SPEAKER_06Like, yeah, if I'm Robbie and I see it, it's like, no, you're not. No, that's that's not gonna happen.
SPEAKER_04Not after that.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I I saw that whole thing, and honey, honey, you you you ain't getting none of this. Like, get out of here. Yeah, I can't afford to be seen with you.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06If you're gonna come over, come in through the back door, honey.
SPEAKER_04Because I saw that that weird Hawaiian song that Yeah, it just was like, it was literally like 30 seconds or less than after she got done performing that she's like, I decided tonight's the night with Robbie.
SPEAKER_06It's like when did you decide this, Lisa, when you were up there doing whatever the hell it was that you were doing up there?
SPEAKER_03I have to say, Jennifer Gray painting the tree in her little outfit with her little 80s high-waisted jeans, shorts, and her ked shoes was super cute. Like, she was just ugh. Yesterday I was watching this and I decided to go to this class thing, but I had to have Jennifer Gray hair. So I made my hair like super curly and I just went out and I let it flop around. And I was very embodying of her.
SPEAKER_06There you go. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You would look really good with the Jennifer Gray hair.
SPEAKER_03Thank you. You would. Thanks, Mick.
SPEAKER_06You'd rock that shit.
SPEAKER_03Thanks.
SPEAKER_06I say this because I have the worst head of hair.
SPEAKER_03No, you got pretty good hair. I cut that hair. You got pretty good hair.
SPEAKER_06I have a great hairstylist that makes it look good.
SPEAKER_03It's me. If you guys were wondering, it's me.
SPEAKER_06So if you're in the area and you want a good cut.
SPEAKER_03I also cut his wife's hair and it's awesome. Well. What?
SPEAKER_06It is. You do a fantastic job. You bite your tongue. You make this hair look good. So clearly you can do anything. Yeah, but it's like George Hamilton. When he was like 12, he'd already slept with his stepmother. Now that's someone that can do anything. So you're there you go. You're in the same league as George Hamilton. Congratulations. Not everyone can say that, Megan.
SPEAKER_03Thanks. I'll take it. Yeah. I was trying to think of his name the other day when I was I have a client of mine. He's got beautiful white gray hair. And uh he is tan. So tan.
SPEAKER_04George Hamilton. I was like, who is that really tan guy? And he did not know what I was talking about. But yeah. Let's go.
SPEAKER_06She's obviously got something on the TV out there. It's got an animal on there. That's why the dog is going schizo. Okay. Yeah. He's cool. He's not in here freaking farting underneath the table, so that's that's a relief.
SPEAKER_04I thought we would go. I thought we would go one episode without mentioning the stink of Covics.
SPEAKER_06We can mention it. We just don't have to go through it. Yeah, we can mention it. We just shouldn't have to go through it.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_06All right. Back to business. So Baby continues to see Johnny in secret, but the bliss is short-lived due to Johnny being falsely accused of stealing a wealthy guest's wallet. Baby proves Johnny's innocence by informing the owner, his creepy ass grandson Neil, and her family that she was with Johnny all night and therefore could not have stolen the wallet. Props to you, baby.
SPEAKER_08Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06Going to bat for your man. You may not run to your dad telling him that Johnny is your guy, but man, you will in a subtle way say he could not have stolen the wallet because I was riding his dick all night. Oh, by the way, sorry. Sorry to say this during breakfast, everyone, but you know, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well, I mean, she doesn't want him to lose his job.
SPEAKER_06That's true.
SPEAKER_03She just laid her life on the line.
SPEAKER_06She had to basically tell her whole family at breakfast at Kellerman's that she was a reverse cowgirl.
SPEAKER_03This is basically just a modernized story of Jesus Christ and the sacrifice.
SPEAKER_06All right. Easy now. Don't get us canceled before we get started.
SPEAKER_03I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_03No, but she laid herself on the line. That is a big thing to do, especially to her dad. I mean, gosh, the more I'm saying this, it kind of kind of is, you know.
SPEAKER_06Which I I think is kind of weird. Like getting back to that, so the rich wife of her impotent ass husband who can't get away from the card game, uh, the card game to strip his wife properly. So she goes to Johnny, she pays him, basically, turning Johnny into a male hooker. Cool.
SPEAKER_03Yes. Yeah. He makes that very clear that he was prostituting.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and and a dance teacher. And oh, and but they were using him. It's like, yeah, sure, sure they were there, Johnny. Yeah, you poor thing. You got these, you got these wives that are they're older than you, more experienced than you, still kind of somewhat hot.
SPEAKER_03No, that I will get to it in my likes, but yes, I did love the we'll get to that scene, but I did love the vulnerability that he did where he was like, These women use me. I can't help but be, you know, one, taking their money because it's what I know, and then two, like, this is what I had to do to, you know, get it.
SPEAKER_06But like that that woman sees baby coming out of his, I don't know what you call it, bungalow. And at first it makes you think that she said something to management, like maybe hit her husband's wallet as like a revenge plot or something like that.
SPEAKER_03Well, she suggested him. She suggested that, you know, like she wasn't like we didn't get to so she was a little bit of a bitter betty there.
SPEAKER_06But it the wallet actually was stolen.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, by the shoemakers. The shoemachers.
SPEAKER_06Freaking old shoema ancient ass uh thieves.
SPEAKER_03Oh props to them too, man.
SPEAKER_06That's like shoemars you know.
SPEAKER_03All the wallets. Yeah, all the wallets, making a freaking fortune. It's that criminal game of being old and undetected.
SPEAKER_06I mean, what what was a fortune back then? I mean, that's a great question because we're watching this, and baby hits up her dad for 250 bucks to pay for this woman's abortion that she's never met before in her entire life. Or, well, she's known for like a day and a half.
SPEAKER_03And that is big money back then.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I I Googled it, it was something like a little over 2,700 bucks.
SPEAKER_03Oh, wow. Yeah, I didn't realize that. Okay.
SPEAKER_06Yep. So that uh Dr. Hausman wasn't kidding us. That's a lot of money, baby.
SPEAKER_03Which I mean, he didn't have it on him. He had to wait to get a check in order to probably clear that amount of money with the bank. Boom.
SPEAKER_06Which he was able to do in something like less than 12 hours. So I can have it for you tonight.
SPEAKER_08Dr.
SPEAKER_06Hausman's got some connects.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_06All right, where did I leave off? Uh creepy ass grandson Neil, and she was with Johnny all night, therefore could not have stolen the wallet. This, of course, results in Johnny's firing anyway, as fraternization between step uh staff and guests is forbidden. Although maybe it's just for um, excuse me, although maybe it's just forbidden for Johnny. Not 100% sure on that.
SPEAKER_03Well, we talked a little bit about it before of yeah, the just not just not the entertainment staff, just not the dancers. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06The wait staff the weight staff can go out there and schlep all the daughters, even the dogs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the Harvard frat boys. Disgusting.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, they get to do what they want. They're Ivy League.
SPEAKER_03That is a Harvey Weinstein freaking move there.
SPEAKER_06That fucking guy. Harvey Weinstein. Yo, uh, did you ever hear that Jason Priestley punched him in his fat fucking face?
SPEAKER_08Mm-mm.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, dude, Brandon Walsh, straight gangster. Yeah. And that's why, like, that's why Harvey Weinstein said, you know, your career's done. He's like, I don't give a fuck. It's like my career was done after 90210, asshole.
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah. It sucks that it we had to wait so long for someone to like be brave enough to come forward, but it it is how the cookie crumbles. But yeah, fuck that guy.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we were talking about that.
SPEAKER_03I was talking about that with a guy I used to work with, and I was just like, man, what is what I hope it was a short conversation because that's all he's deserved.
SPEAKER_06We were just I was just basically asking him, I was like, man, I was like, you know, if I had that kind of money and if I had that kind of power, I could think of a lot better things to do than that. And did you ever see Harvey Weinstein's wife? Uh dude, she was like she like top shelf. But I guess he basically explained it to me how he's just like, you know.
SPEAKER_03Well, he couldn't get his he couldn't get any satisfaction from his wife, so he had to like dive into these disgusting things and scenarios where he had to push bait literally push women against a wall, put them between a rock and a hard place to like get anything out of it. Yeah. Because of a power play. Yeah. Gross. Yeah. All right. Enough of him.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, don't don't be doing that, man. Don't be going and putting your hands on these ladies, on these beautiful ladies, without you know, unless they want you to, and if they don't want you to be able to do that, remember my little silent clap of whatever they're doing these days.
SPEAKER_03Don't be doing that shit.
SPEAKER_06Man, have some respect for the ladies. Yeah. I always say this all the time. Here, here. I I make misogynistic jokes. Okay. I am not a misogynist. I make jokes, and that's all they're ever gonna be.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, sometimes they're just like not funny, but that's you. No, that's me.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, no, no, not all not all of my jokes land. I understand this.
SPEAKER_04So sometimes Mick can't read the room of one.
SPEAKER_06Sometimes Nick chooses Nick chooses not to read the room of one.
SPEAKER_04That too.
SPEAKER_06But no, that yeah, I I I make harmless jokes. That's all they're ever gonna be. Alright, so um, you got a little something here at the end, or did you already say that?
SPEAKER_03Uh, already.
SPEAKER_06Okay. Finally, at the end of the season banquet, Johnny returns because that's what the rebellious bad boy dance instructors do and says the ever the ever-famous line, Megan, you want to take this one?
SPEAKER_03Nobody puts baby in a corner.
SPEAKER_06Exactly. They both make their way to the stage where Johnny makes a short speech. Him and baby do their dance number, and they cap it off with the one move that they have not been able to land throughout the entire movie. Until now. The lift.
SPEAKER_08The lift.
SPEAKER_06They practice the lift everywhere. They practice the lift in his room, they practice the laugh, uh, the lift in the pond. They couldn't get it.
SPEAKER_03I uh I won't save this for my BS on the BL, but that lift was the first time they did they did it. Jennifer Gray was like very scared of doing this lift, so she waited until this shot, until this scene was being filmed, and then boom, done, got it. Oh shabam.
SPEAKER_06So, what you're trying to tell me that all 92 pounds of Jennifer Gray was worried that Patrick Swayze wouldn't be able to lift and hold her up. She was scared.
SPEAKER_03She was scared of this lift.
SPEAKER_06I could see if Johnny Castle was trying to do the lift on me. I could see him being a little anxious about that. Like, I'd like to see you lift all 282 pounds of the cinematic back there, Johnny. Okay. But come on. I'm I'm pretty sure Patrick Swayze had the gusto to lift but you know with ease.
SPEAKER_03Fear sometimes wins.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_03It could be And when you're like, dude, I need to make other movies, I really don't want to do this, I might. Fall, I might break something. The irony. He could drop me. We have history. That kind of thing.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_03Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_06The irony is though, is really what did Jennifer Gray's uh what did her career amount to after this movie?
SPEAKER_03I mean, she was in some things.
SPEAKER_06I remember I want to say it was like spring of 98 there was this made for TV movie that she was in. And like somebody said, like, yeah, it's Jennifer Gray. I'm like, it is? It doesn't even look like her.
SPEAKER_03I have watched Friends so many times. So many times. And uh it was probably when I was staying up late with uh my newborn baby that I was, you know, holding him and nursing, and all of a sudden was like, is that Jennifer Gray? Is she is she one of Rachel's friends? Yes, she is.
SPEAKER_06She was on an episode of Friends.
SPEAKER_03Mendy. She was the dentist that uh was her best friend who ended up having the affair with the dentist that she was going to marry initially. Oh and then comes back. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Nice.
SPEAKER_03And she has to deal with that, and she goes to the wedding and she sings that song and her un and her dresses in her underwear when she goes out.
SPEAKER_06Is that the Barry Manilo song that she sings?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06Copacabana?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_06Okay, alright. I remember that episode now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03No, but yeah, like she doesn't really end up.
SPEAKER_06She comes walking in in that awful ass bridesmaid's dress, and Chandler looks at her and goes, Oh, I'm sorry, we don't have your sheep.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06Oh, Chandler, can you ever win?
SPEAKER_03R.I.P. Matthew. Yeah. You're missed.
SPEAKER_06Alright. So then there's some more slow dancing. And then that's it. Aside from the fact that you have Max Kellerman talking to the band leader asking him if he has the sheet music to this stuff, because that's gonna save Kellerman. Oh, it couldn't hurt. It couldn't hurt with a freaking drummer.
SPEAKER_03That is the whole point of Kellerman, is he's like, this is, you know, this is nobody wants this stuff anymore of what I have to offer. But like I also think the entertainment is riff-raff and they have no good ideas. And then, oh, turns out they're cool and hip.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you know, trips to Europe. That's what the kids want. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. I hope none of my kids are coming to me and be like, let me tell you, this is not the end. Uh, you say other than blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I'm asking about sheet music. No, that's not the end. The end is the acceptance of Johnny from her dad. He's all like, saw you out there. You look great and independent.
SPEAKER_06When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong.
SPEAKER_03Yes, and his dad's approval. And that's what makes the movie amazing.
SPEAKER_06It's like it's hard for a man to say. It's hard for a man to say that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Me, I'm wrong pretty much all the damn time. So I don't I have no choice. I have to admit it. So, but that's hard for a man to say.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Like when I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong. Yeah, because he finds out, because Robbie, being the dumb fuck that he is, hey, I appreciate you with that whole penny situation. And he's just like, what? It's like, yeah, you really are a prick, aren't you? Giving him that money back.
SPEAKER_03Harvard, really? I guess you're just a logic guy and not a common sense guy.
SPEAKER_06Oh no. Robbie isn't Robbie is way too classless for Harvard. That's why he goes to Yale.
SPEAKER_03Oh, is it Yale?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's a Yaley.
SPEAKER_03I thought he said that he was gonna go to Harvard. I could have sworn that the end of the. We'll have to debate that.
SPEAKER_06Alright. So I think we did take care of all the of everything with the ending there. So yes. That is the end of the movie.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_06Alright, well.
SPEAKER_03After after yes, after the approval, and she like gets the guy and her dad's cool and they still maintain their awesome relationship. Everybody's winning. Yeah, that's the end.
SPEAKER_06That is the end.
SPEAKER_03Except for Robbie.
SPEAKER_06That's not Robbie. You know what the shame is though?
SPEAKER_03I feel like he's gonna bounce back just fine. Something tells me that he'll probably get himself in another kind of pickle.
SPEAKER_06He's gonna be just fine. Probably become some incredibly successful doctor. You know what the shame is though is that his name is Robbie Gold.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_06And that's the same name as quite possibly one of the best place kickers in Chicago Bears history. Robbie Gold.
SPEAKER_03You know, I was reading this and I thought that that had sounded familiar, but I would have never connected those dots. I probably just got told that, like, in a in a trivia night, probably is where I learned that information and heard that name.
SPEAKER_06That's such a shame. It it it it taints the legacy of Robbie Gold. Not really. Alright, what do you got for Lex? You go first.
SPEAKER_03No, you go first. All right. I don't I don't have two. Yeah, he'll say.
SPEAKER_06And a one I already talked about. Uh so I'm just gonna go ahead and just repeat that one. Jerry Orbach, always been a fan of him, especially when he was on Law and Order.
SPEAKER_08Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_06Bum bum. Alright, now you go. Oh, what you do what I tell you.
SPEAKER_03Well, uh, definitely the soundtrack, one of the best, in my opinion, that I've heard, and of course the dancing, because I mean, could you imagine for a minute, like when she walks in and she's hearing, which I thought it was uh Love Man, but it was like the mashed potato twist song. I can't think of the name. Um, but like when she's like in awe of that. But could you imagine a 2026 movie version of this? And it's like you walk in and it's everybody twerking.
SPEAKER_06Oh god.
SPEAKER_03Like, I don't even know. I can't twerk. I'm not cool. Um, but yeah, I just think that would be super, super freaking weird.
SPEAKER_06I think, yep, it's a song you're thinking of Do You Love Me by the contours.
SPEAKER_08Yes.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Um, yeah. The my other like is the soundtrack ellipse for the most part. There are a few songs here that simply just don't fit the time in which the movie is set. That Hungry Eyes by Eric Carmen. Yeah, that's not from 1963. Which I think that's kind of lame. If you're gonna have a soundtrack for a movie, have it fit the time period.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06It kind of worked for that scene though.
SPEAKER_03Yes and no. Because it is working for the scene, but like everything played that they danced to really was in the you know, was 1960s music.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_03But to like shape a scene of like when they're having a moment, yeah, give me some hungry eyes.
SPEAKER_06When did Hungry Eyes come out? Yeah, it's obviously back in the 80s. I think maybe even Eric Carmen um performed it for this for this particular soundtrack, but yeah, no, it was that's the song is not from 1963, unless Eric Carmen wrote it when he was 15 years old, which highly doubt. So not even sure if he even wrote it. But there is some Otis writing on this at least one song, and I love me some Otis Writing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I was I actually turned on Love Man on my drive here.
SPEAKER_06That's a good one.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. All right, yeah.
SPEAKER_06That's uh that's all I got for likes. Sorry.
SPEAKER_03Um, okay, I'll just go into mine. All right. I like the storyline, of course. I touched on this in the beginning, but like to walk out with the bad boy and the respect of your father, like totally winning. And I felt like it flowed well, and nothing, despite your opinion, was too corny. I know you're gonna say that later in your I respectfully disagree.
SPEAKER_06There was a lot of dancing.
SPEAKER_03No, I did not feel like the dancing was corny, which I was trying to think of like the movie earlier, which was Save the Last Dance. I looked it up, Julia Styles was in it, and that dancing, like that movie is great until her final dance that she does, where it just is like dumb as fuck. And I feel like the dancing in this movie just like stands the test of time. It was great dancing, it was well done, well choreographed, like nothing was too like you think of also the movie Hairspray and that kind of dancing, like that was a little bit different and kind of for a certain, you know. Yeah, but this was just kind of stands the test of time. So I like that.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, if if we're talking about the dancing, yeah, the dancing is is more than fine.
SPEAKER_03Um but I love I loved I love the storyline. I loved all the yeah.
SPEAKER_06I thought you were saying there for a second that there was nothing corny about this movie. Oh, there's plenty that's corny about this movie. But the dancing isn't it.
SPEAKER_03Well, I I think uh of course it's gonna be corny. It's based in the 1960s. Let's be real. Yeah. So authentic, I think, is what you're going for. Okay. All right, I'll agree with you on that too.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'll give you that too.
SPEAKER_03But um, let's see, my other likes, I like the vulnerability of Johnny. I didn't say that right. Vulnerability. There we go. Of Johnny when he talks of how it's been for him at the resort, kind of like prostituting himself out. I also thought was like, I thought it was funny of like, of course you, of course, this would be a man being like, oh, I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I don't know what to do with all the vagina coming at me.
SPEAKER_06And they're I'm pretty sure Johnny knows what he's doing by now. But I'm pretty sure he's pretty seasoned by now.
SPEAKER_03We saw whatever Mrs. whatever her Mrs. the the um the uh other guest he was sleeping with. Bungalow Betty. Yes, yeah, um bunny. She was a bungalow bunny, yes. Uh she looked all right, but I can only imagine the other offers that he did get kind of from other women. So I did feel like, uh.
SPEAKER_06And I was like, man, back in those days, it probably would have been unwise for him to say no to I'd never thought about that.
SPEAKER_03And I thought after him sharing that, I was like, you're gonna be a great dad to a girl.
SPEAKER_08That's what I thought. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Oh, dude, kids, you're killing me. Yeah, I really thought that.
SPEAKER_03So I loved. I love that part. That was a like. Um, what else do I have? Oh, the quotes. I carried a watermelon, and of course, nobody puts baby in the corner. Which, fun fact, I carried a watermelon was totally improvised. Really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. She said it and they liked it. So they went with that take.
SPEAKER_06Well, well, you know, and I I I do like that part. I did not know that it was improv until now, obviously. But um, yeah, and that is actually kind of funny because I think we can both, and everybody we know can relate to where it's like you say something and tap on the side of my head, sounds good up here, and then you say it, and you're all like, Oh, I just said that. Holy shit. Do you remember to sound so smooth and I fell about 50 yards short.
SPEAKER_03Do you remember that part in the movie Liar Liar? Uh, where he gets the like the truth magic works and he has to say the truth, and she's like, It was good for me. How was it for you? And he's like, I've had better.
SPEAKER_04And then he's throughout his morning, he's like brushing his teeth, and he's like, Well, I've had better. And then he's giggling to himself on the elevator, like, oh, I've had better. What? I can't believe I said that. Really? Like you just said that.
SPEAKER_03We have all had moments like that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um, but yeah, love those quotes. And then um, I love the moment. This is my last like, I love the moment where she confronts her dad. Oh no, it's not. I have one more. Uh, I love the moment where she confronts her dad and apologizes, but also holds him accountable for his expectations and moral code. I just really appreciate that. I was like, you go, girl. Yeah. Say, like, recognize your faults, but also be like, no, dad, but you also need to like check yourself.
SPEAKER_06Mm-hmm. Don't be so high society.
SPEAKER_03In the mirror. Ooh.
SPEAKER_06Just because a man's not a rich ass doctor doesn't mean he's uh doesn't mean he's a bad dude.
SPEAKER_03I also uh my other like was I liked which I didn't put down, um, I liked the fact that she won a chicken uh for participating in the magic show.
SPEAKER_06It's only hurt for a minute. And and you've got poor cross, right?
SPEAKER_03Newman. Newman was in this movie.
SPEAKER_06I finally made a girl just like my mother. I bring her home, my father doesn't like her. Go figure. Thank you for being such a good sport. Yeah. All right. What about dislikes? Am I going first or yeah, you can go first. I was saying you were on a roll there for a while, and I really, really hate to mess up your rhythm.
SPEAKER_03No, no, no. You can go first. A star knows when to step back and pass the ball.
SPEAKER_06I appreciate it.
SPEAKER_03And pass the ball, go sports with it and pass the ball.
SPEAKER_06Let me let me have my 15 minutes. Well, gee, that's so thoughtful of you. Thanks. My first dislike. Uh Neil. The grandson Neil.
SPEAKER_03Snap, snap, snap.
SPEAKER_06When he's not being creepy, his all get out, he's just a freaking dork. Yeah. Or no. I actually have here when he's not being an over-the-top dork, he's creepy to an incredibly unnerving level. I have a dark fan theory about Neil that instead of after the final performance where he tells Baby he's gonna go down the Mississippi and be a freedom writer, the the hell you are, Neil. How are you kidding? Of course, he says that after she says he's joining the Peace Corps. Like, Neil, you're so full of shit. You're not going to Mississippi, you asshole.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Future You don't have the balls to be a freedom writer.
SPEAKER_03Future CEO of who is named in the hashtag Me Too movement.
SPEAKER_06Okay, that's a good one. I personally, my dark fan theory about Neil is that he changed his name, moved out to Wichita, Kansas, got married, had a family, became BTK. Became the BTK killer.
SPEAKER_03Dark.
SPEAKER_06He became Dennis Rader.
SPEAKER_03Dark.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Gross, right? Dark. Yeah. All right. You're up.
SPEAKER_03Fucking Neil.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. All right. Um as long as you two are very happy.
SPEAKER_03Uh definitely Neil and Mr. Kellerman. We talked about it earlier. So I'll go with my second one. Robbie. I couldn't stand that guy. Oh yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Very punchable face.
SPEAKER_03I know we needed him for this storyline, but God, I hate guys like Robbie. Oh yeah. So I was like, oh, when he got hit, it was great.
SPEAKER_06Yes, it was. Yeah. I'll get to that in a little bit, but yeah. Um, what was it? Oh, Neil. Like sat down to play cards at 1 30. When he got up to check at a quarter to flour, it was missing. It's like, shut up.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, what a wiener. Like, I just he was such a wiener. What a wiener story to tell in such a wiener way.
SPEAKER_06Like, I mean, and the the way he talks to be the way he talks to Johnny, it's like, I'm thinking we close with the pachanga. And not like how Johnny corrects him. He's like, fine, we'll close with the pachanga. And it's just, if I worked for someone like Neil, I'd be so tempted to look at him after he got done saying whatever the hell it is he had to say. And she'd be like, I would just like it if I just wrap these hands around your throat, and this ugly ass mug is the last thing you see before before the lights go out. Would you like that, Neil? Whoa. Get the fuck out of here before I toss your ass in the lake.
SPEAKER_03Whoa, Mick.
unknownI know.
SPEAKER_03Chicago's showing.
SPEAKER_06I get a little intense. I get on her and go get me a go get me a dog. And none of that goddamn ketchup on there. And go get the weed whacker out of the garage. You call it a weed eater one more time, I'm gonna kick your ass.
SPEAKER_03Of course the Chicago would say whacker.
SPEAKER_06That's what that's that's what it's called. I moved out here and people were all like, yeah, I was weed eating. I'm like, what are you talking about?
SPEAKER_03You were weed whacking?
SPEAKER_06I'm like, what are you talking about?
SPEAKER_03You were whacking some weeds?
SPEAKER_06What were you talking about? I said it it's not a weed eater, it's a weed whacker. Yeah, but what do you do?
SPEAKER_03Do you weed eat with that weed whacker? No. Oh, you just weed whack with the weed whacker. You weed whack with the weed whack.
SPEAKER_06That grass over there by the fence. You better whack that weed. That grass is getting tall over there by the fence. So go over to the garage, go get the weed whacker, start that shit up. You gotta cut that down because you got a wood fence. That dude gets on the wood. You got problems. All right, so go get the weed whacker out of the garage. Now move it. All right. It's a weed whacker. All right, my next one here. Not bashing the swayzy here, but there are some parts where his acting was just not good. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_03Wait, wait, wait. We have to go back to the weed whacking real quick. When I came into your house and I said I had been weed eating, did you cringe?
SPEAKER_06You just said it again.
SPEAKER_03But did you, but did you win?
SPEAKER_04Did you catch that?
SPEAKER_06Cringe.
SPEAKER_04Were you even listening to like what I was saying when I gave it up?
SPEAKER_06I cringed then and I cringe now. And yes, of course, I was listening. It's like you and like maybe two or three other people.
SPEAKER_03Very surprised you didn't take that opportunity to uh quote unquote correct me.
SPEAKER_06You have to understand that sometimes I I can't be rude all the time, otherwise, it just won't be the same. Okay, and then there's other times where yes, you're like one of the few people that I will actually listen to when they're not talking about me.
SPEAKER_03Usually anybody else, yeah, population one or maybe your mom. I don't know.
SPEAKER_06I would say I would say five.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Five. Whoa, that's more than I anticipated.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Okay. That's a lot, yeah, it's a larger number than a lot of people would anticipate.
SPEAKER_03All right. I didn't mean to interrupt you, but I had to go back. It's okay. It's okay. Because I was like, I literally said this when I came into your home.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Well, don't say it again. So yeah, the same could be said for Jennifer Gray, uh, especially at the very end where he's mouthing the words to I've had the time of my life. I was watching this in preparation for this episode. My youngest and I were dying laughing at that part. She is more, she is more like me than she'll probably ever admit. We both started laughing. We even high-fived each other.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you corny, you corny high-fived each other.
SPEAKER_06Yes, of course we did.
SPEAKER_03It's a corny moment.
SPEAKER_06I don't care. And she wouldn't either. Because we're sitting there and he's like, he like crinkles up his nose, and he's like, we're gonna judge the corny and then do something corny.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06I think it's poetic justice, personally. I knew I had a good feeling about this episode.
SPEAKER_03Corn means corn.
SPEAKER_06Once again, yeah. That's that's art. I knew I knew for a reason I had a for good reason. I had a really good feeling about this episode. And we are not disappointed. And it's not because of the of the booze either. Although that is that's not hurting things.
SPEAKER_03No, passion. Passion is my game. Exactly. That's where I succeed. Give me some dirty dancing.
SPEAKER_06I get nervous without alcohol. I don't know. That might be a problem. That maybe now I'm drinking water, so it's good. So yeah. And you you have here that you love that part.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah. I th I loved it. I thought it made him more likable. I thought that it really kind of like younged him down that you're like, oh yeah. Okay. All right. And I felt like he was more like 21 in this movie, if I be honest. I feel like I I feel it uh what it what is it the that they say his his age is like 23, 24, somewhere around there.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm I I was gonna say like maybe twenty-two, but yeah, twenty-three, twenty-four sounds a little bit more believable.
SPEAKER_03Well, looks-wise and kind of that, but I felt like throughout the movie he was more of a 21 kind of boy. Yeah, you know, he just looked a little bit older. Okay, but I felt like that was a young moment he had, and there was also the moment when he was talking about I never had anybody do that for me, baby, you know, when she stands up to her dad. And so I felt like that was uh yeah, that's right. You're a young guy, like you're a young kid, really. And I I did like it. Okay.
SPEAKER_06All right, what about you? You're up.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Oh, let me scroll down here. Uh pennies, hypocrisy, like, girl, don't judge me, but I'm gonna judge you. Kind of what you do with the weed whacking.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I don't I don't judge. I'm just kinda I just don't understand.
SPEAKER_03Or no, with the with the corn. Kind of like the uh sorry, the corn. The corn, the corniness. Oh the corny moment, the oxymoron. That's where I was going. I knew I'd get there. It just takes a little oil on the wheels sometimes.
SPEAKER_06I just didn't expect her to start laughing at it, and then she she saw that and he started like, he's got the he's like, like I said earlier, he just like crinkles up his nose and he's like, and oh, I love you, and and she just started laughing, and I saw her laughing, so I started laughing. Yeah, it was an authentic moment that you were like, Oh I'm wondering where the hell the director was. Because if I'm the director, I'm like, cut. I'm like, no, please don't do that.
SPEAKER_03He was like, That's a rap because that was so authentic and genuine, and it made you guys. Likeable and real.
SPEAKER_06I understand that if I mean let's just for for shits and grins, let's just you know take that like say he doesn't do that, and they're forced to just kind of stand there and slow dance and just kind of stare at each other. Okay, that that would be hard to do. A lot of people don't think so. That would be slightly difficult to do. Um but no, in my artistic vision or lack thereof, the mouthing of the words of a song, not necessary. And I would be I'd be like, no, don't mouth the words of a song. No, you look like a jag off when you're like.
SPEAKER_03We were all being in love, and also like, you know, you do something silly when all the attention's on you, and you know, like that's just a natural thing. So I felt like it made it him very real. All right. Kind of, and not like you forgot that you were kind of watching this movie of this love story or whatever, and you're like, oh, yeah. He's so cute. Like, I felt like that was kind of almost what you would call like a blooper or something that they probably should have, but it made it a little bit more real, and now I think that's a great moment also to have of just Patrick Swayze now that he's no longer with us. That I love that little moment on on screen.
SPEAKER_06I you know, I I do have to say, um, I was I was pretty sad when Patrick Swayze passed away.
SPEAKER_02Same.
SPEAKER_06I didn't love all of his work, but there were some things that I really, really, yeah. And I mean, he was with his wife like pretty much his and you know, I mean, it's not like he got married to her and they got divorced like three years later or something like that. I mean, she was with him till the very end. And there was a show he was doing when he was sick, and he had pancreatic cancer. And they, I mean, I g I guess it's the well, nobody wants to get cancer, obviously, but it's a really, really aggressive cancer. And he still showed up to work even though he was in probably a lot of pain, probably feeling like shit from chemo treatments and everything. It's just and then yeah, unfortunately, Patrick Swayze lost his battle with a fucking awful disease.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So anyway, but we're here to have fun, so yeah. Um, were you did you still have more or I don't want to cut you off, my friend.
SPEAKER_03No, did you go through all your dislikes?
SPEAKER_06No. I got a couple left.
SPEAKER_03I feel like it's your turn. All right. You're you're up to bat. Okay. Look at me with my sports analogies.
SPEAKER_06That's right. No more of this on deck show.
SPEAKER_03Knocking them out of the park. There's one more for you. Sorry.
SPEAKER_06Keep bringing them. You know, I you know I love sports. After all these years and so many times seeing this movie, I'm failing to see why so many people consider this a classic. It's it's just not a classic to me. I'm not making fun of anyone that thinks it's a classic.
SPEAKER_03Hey, that this film is of course a classic. Uh it's the highest grossing independent film. Um, and the fact that all the pieces fit the the music, the story, the dance style, the actors fit. I I mean, love it. Uh, I love, I hate that Jennifer Gray got her a nose job, but I'm also not gonna be like, oh, why'd you do that? You remember like you do you, girl. Um, but I loved her and I thought she was so beautiful in this film, but she wasn't this like unobtainable gorgeous, you know what I mean? Like she was very girl next door, but I thought she was just gorgeous in this film. Okay, and so you know, you got you got that thing going, and then she gets the guy, and we also like got some good quotes from it, great soundtrack, the everything on board, right? All the things are in place, and this is what makes this a classic film. Okay, we quote it, we recognize it the set the second, just like Ghost, Ghost would be a classic film. You you would you say Ghost is a classic film?
SPEAKER_06I almost said yes.
SPEAKER_03Breakfast Club?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, definitely.
SPEAKER_03I feel like this is kind of in the category of Breakfast Club.
SPEAKER_06Even though uh a friend of mine, a friend of ours, has been on the show before. In fact, she said this when she was on the show. She shall remain nameless for now, but if she ever listens to this, she knows who she is, she knows who I'm who I'm talking about here. And I can't remember exactly what we were talking about, but I said something, she's like, let me guess. The Breakfast Club. I was like, Yeah, the Breakfast Club. She's like, You are so predictable, and all I could think of was I am anything but predictable. But that's your opinion on me, go right ahead. I don't care, but I am anything but predictable.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So Dirty Dancing, I think, is up there with that.
SPEAKER_06Okay, and that's that's all well and good.
SPEAKER_03It's a classic of its time of the 80s. It was, I mean, you it's in there with um uh Ferris Bueller's last day.
SPEAKER_06Which she was always in, which she always in with what she was in. Ferris Bueller's day off, which we really need to do an episode on that one.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Yeah, we can go through some 80s cult classics.
SPEAKER_06She is so funny in that movie. I'm sorry, she is. She is so funny in that movie. Especially when she's uh calling 911 and it's like, look, I'm that's real nice about my brother or anything, but I am very young and I'm very cute, and I do not want my body violated or killed. She hangs up and she's like on the phone, she's like, Dick pad. I might have to put in the uh her kicking Edward Rooney right in the face in this episode. And maybe in this episode, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, this just all the components came together for this film, and I feel like that's what makes it a classic. Um yeah.
SPEAKER_06Alright. Okay. Um Europe.
SPEAKER_03Oh, uh the age difference. I did not like the age difference between Johnny and Baby. He was supposed to be, his character was supposed to be 23, 24. She is 17. Like there is no she could be 17 to 19 uh or anything like that. She is 17, and I did not like that difference. I do not like that that is such a common thing throughout our older films of a man being significantly older than a girl. It's icky. I mean, I mean, you gotta reach a certain point.
SPEAKER_06I I mean, what was their what was their real age difference in real life though?
SPEAKER_03I don't know. I think he was in his well, like it wasn't much. She was 27. She was, you know, so it wasn't much. And I think he was maybe, I would say maybe 32. Look it up.
SPEAKER_06We're about to find out, so keep it going here so we don't have a lot of dead error.
SPEAKER_03I but I didn't like their age difference in the storyline. I just thought it was gross. And you know, if we're supposed to be looking at this young girl like she's a high school student, like she's not even 18. I would have appreciated if she was 18 to 19. I would have been a little bit more on board, but I feel like 17 is such a like girl, you just got your license. You know?
SPEAKER_06Well, a year before.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But like, yeah, just a year before.
SPEAKER_06So let's see here. Uh Patrick Swayze was born in 52. Trying to think. I don't know. I'm trying to think. I'm trying to see, but it's not showing me anything here. I want to say she was born in like 60.
SPEAKER_03But it's still, you know.
SPEAKER_06Keep it going, because I'm gonna I'm gonna get to the bottom of this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I just I just don't even I just thought it was gross. I'll go into my other dislike while you look that up.
SPEAKER_06Alright, I got it here, 1960. So they're about seven and a half, eight year age difference between them, between the two. In real life.
SPEAKER_03In reality. I mean, which kind of was what it is in the movie, but it's just she's 17. Yeah. And I just don't like it. That's it.
SPEAKER_06And what do you think the what do you think their odds are in reality? Do you think baby and Johnny in reality stayed together? I don't think so.
SPEAKER_03No, because she was going out of the Peace Corps, it wasn't gonna last.
SPEAKER_06Yep.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06She didn't seem like the kind that she was gonna change her plans.
SPEAKER_03Well, like he would have to break a bad habit of being, you know, his prostitution bad.
SPEAKER_06Which he already started when he turned down the money.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, good good.
SPEAKER_06A man of honor would have kept the money, not screwed the guy's wife, and been like, peace.
SPEAKER_05Man of honor.
SPEAKER_06Well, what do you think a man of honor would have done? Been like, yes, sir, I'll give your wife some dance lessons, no problem.
SPEAKER_03No, just done what he done. Like give the money back and say, like, I'm too busy. Sorry.
SPEAKER_06When she's having a hard time walking back to your card game, buddy, you only have yourself to blame. Uh put out the stogie and take care of your wife.
SPEAKER_03I cannot remember her name, but she um the the the the older lady that he was sleeping with, um, the older buddy. She is identical to this girl, Sabrina, that I was on kickball with. Uh, every time I watch this movie after I met Sabrina, I'm like, it's so fucking weird. It's just so weird. They have literally the same freaking face. Wow. Okay. Yeah, it's not just she just looks like her, she is her twin. Like later on in life.
SPEAKER_06Not even her doppelganger, but her twin, huh?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Okay. But yeah. They are the same. Different life.
SPEAKER_06All right.
SPEAKER_03Uh, but I'll go into my next dislike. Yeah, yeah. Uh Johnny doing a little grind, uh, like a little drive-by grind as he's going. So like he sees baby and his cousin or whoever, and he's just like, does this drive by grind on these different girls where he just like goes up and like just like even does like one pelvic thrust, I think, on one girl?
SPEAKER_06And I'm like, also, once again, would not be accepted in 2026.
SPEAKER_03No, it would not. No, it would not.
SPEAKER_06Maybe back in 87 that sort of thing was a little acceptable.
SPEAKER_03Dude, back in my club days, people were trying to do that. Back when I was hitting up the club at age 21, 22.
SPEAKER_06See, that's why I was never a club.
SPEAKER_03And then I'd be like, ew, get get off me.
SPEAKER_06I was never a club guy. I was more of a pub guy. I I'm Irish American.
SPEAKER_03Definitely went through a club phase.
SPEAKER_06I'm not saying I never went to clubs. I went to some of the clubs down in like the district, but I was like, man, this really is.
SPEAKER_03No, I went to so many different clubs with so many different people. I was a little club rat. Um, but this is also why I love this movie because I love dancing so much. Um, here's a little weird fact. When I did competitive acting, yes, you heard me right, competitive acting in high school.
SPEAKER_06All that thing is a competition.
SPEAKER_03We would go to different high schools and we would compete. And you, you know, you had different categories that you were in and whatever. And during the downtime, like depending on the school and kind of like the environment that we had, there'd be some dance competitions going on of just like dance battles in the cafeteria. You know, you're there for so long. So, like after you're done competing and you know, performing your piece, you get kind of in your jammies, and you're just waiting to get on the bus and then to give out the awards. So, like I would venture down into the cafeteria and I would watch these girls have these dance battles and guys, and I just thought they were the coolest. I mean, popping and locking, and like some would be so good that they were breakdancing, others would have like a routine, some would be step, like it was so awesome to watch. And then I would find myself like staying up late at night and trying to watch B E T like behind my parents' back and learning now.
SPEAKER_06Why would your parents not let you watch BET?
SPEAKER_03Well, they thought it was too grown. That's what it really was. And I mean, it kind of was.
SPEAKER_06Megan, what are we really talking about here? What is it you're trying to tell me about your mom and dad, but they would not let you watch B E T they wouldn't let me watch MTV, BH1, or B.E.T.
SPEAKER_03Any kind of like modern music, but they also were starting to do shows on those.
SPEAKER_06I like how you cover that up.
SPEAKER_03No, that's what it was.
SPEAKER_06I'll I'll stop messing with you. I was just joking.
SPEAKER_03But they, you know, and I would I would stay up late, and I always loved B.E.T. because I just loved the like the urban look and the music and the RB and the hip-hop, and I loved how they danced, and I always wanted to be like on dance videos when I was a kid. Did not happen for me.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you would have to do that.
SPEAKER_03That's why I did competitive acting because my dad didn't want to pay for any extracurricular things. Competitive acting, that's free.
SPEAKER_06Your dad sounds awesome. I don't want to pay for that. Competitive acting's free. All right, that's fine. Can I do this, dad? Well, is it gonna cost me any money? No, I don't know. Knock yourself up.
SPEAKER_04Pretty much what's the rule in our house? I feel like my sister would testify to that.
SPEAKER_06Have yourself a good time. Okay.
SPEAKER_04And we I mean, because she did it too, because it was like their only option that we had as a kid. And so I followed in her footsteps and like, you look like you're having fun. How did you do it?
SPEAKER_06I remember a friend of mine from high school asked me one time. She was uh talking about the sports that she played in high school. She's like, What about you? What sports did you play? And I'm like, You clearly don't remember me all that well from high school. I wasn't exactly the go-getter. She's like, Did you do any any extracurriculars? I was like, Nope. It's like uh old episode of The Simpsons where Homer looks at his old yearbook and he looks all freaking partied out and shit, and said, Sports, none. Activities, none. Honors, none. So many memories. That's kind of how I was. It was kind of funny when somebody else one time asked me, What about you? Who'd you date in high school? And I was like, Nobody. Wasn't exactly fighting them off with a stick. All right.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I was in love with so many people.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I'm sure I was too, but I had to suffer in silence.
SPEAKER_03At recess, my boyfriend the night before, his name is Chris Smith. I'll say it. Chris Smith.
SPEAKER_06Well, yeah. It's out there. Anyway. Yeah, there's probably about tens of millions just in the state of Florida alone.
SPEAKER_03Good guess on where that's fun.
SPEAKER_06Anyway, I love marrowing that one down.
SPEAKER_03He was my boyfriend like the third, fourth grade, something like that. And he broke up with me in a note, passed me this note. I think it was fifth grade. Fifth grade.
SPEAKER_06And he was it a return note where it's like, do you still want to?
SPEAKER_03No, it was it was telling me what he didn't like about me and that he didn't want to be my boyfriend anymore. Man. Um, so of course, you know, upset. Well, the new Celine Dion album had just come out. Um, God, I can't remember the name of the album, but it was like, you know, the one it had uh, I want to be the one to make you happy. And me and my girlfriends were at my friend Heather's house and we're all jamming out to the Celine Dion, and I was singing, and she's like, you know what would be great is if you sang this song to Chris. And I was like, oh my god, I don't know why. Like weed was not introduced. I was a fifth grader, like no, no other substance, substance, I can't even say it, substance, thank you, are were you know in this, but I was like, that sounds like a great idea.
SPEAKER_06Nothing mind-altering. He came up with this all on your own.
SPEAKER_03I plugged in that karaoke machine at recess, and I sang this song, and uh, Chris was like, I hate you, Megan, in the middle of it to make a full circle.
SPEAKER_06Did you tell me you finished a song?
SPEAKER_03Uh uh, no. I was just like, Chris, no, oh my god. Um, and then I ran off, you know. I had to like stop, you know, and stand there and like look for the button that was stop.
SPEAKER_06Megan. This this story just became a lot a lot less funny.
SPEAKER_03Define me as a person. I'm fine with this for a full circle moment though. Like at my wedding, I was like, I will not make my most uh you know outgoing moment, like where I put my all. I will not waste that on Chris Smith. It will be for my husband. And so I decided, I don't know why I'm doing this in my life. I decided that I'm gonna sing a song for my husband at a reception in front of 160 people that I don't really know. And I couldn't do this, and I didn't get to practice. I mean, I practiced, I had a singing coach like that was helping me. I was really preparing for this, and then I got too drunk, and I wasn't able to find it. Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_06The story has redeemed itself now.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so but excellent. So, you know, my most embarrassing moment was not about Chris Smith anymore. It was, in fact, for my husband.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Chris Smith, you're no good.
unknownAll right.
SPEAKER_06My last dislike is in their fight scene, Johnny gives Robbie a free shot to the chin. In my opinion, uh, this is not a smart move, as it would have most likely resulted in Johnny getting knocked the fuck out. And there is there's nothing embarrassing about losing a fight.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, but Robbie wasn't giving him like hardcore shots.
SPEAKER_06No, he wasn't. Robbie's too much of a pussy. Um but hold on, let me let me finish here because I am someone that's a little knowledgeable on the fight game. Anybody that knows anything about boxing, MMA, street brawling, keep that chin tucked in. You take any kind of shot to the chin, you gotta good chance.
SPEAKER_03What? I just said, Oh, yeah, boxer mick. I was like, you're giving good advice. And I was like, oh yeah, you got you got that boxer background.
SPEAKER_06I'm not a boxer. I'm not. I never was. I did it.
SPEAKER_03You like to hit a bag every once in a while. I I do.
SPEAKER_06I I did a Is that what they say?
SPEAKER_03Is that the wingo? Hit a bag.
SPEAKER_06Work in the bag.
SPEAKER_04Work in the bag.
SPEAKER_06I suppose I suppose in different regions there's different there's different things like weed whacker and weed eater. If somebody wants to hit the bag, they can hit the bag.
SPEAKER_04Whack in the whack in the bag.
SPEAKER_06I call it work in the bag personally. But no, I'm not a boxer. I never was a boxer. Um I did a little bit of training back in the day, but I do know how to throw a punch. I can really SWAT, I can really hit hard. But I don't, I'm, I don't like violence, so that's been well established. Anyway, yeah, no, I'm sorry. In real life, uh don't give anyone the chin. Don't ever say, Come on, hit me, hit me, hit me. Not on the chin. Not be getting knocked out does not mean that you're unconscious. It means that your brain is not online with the rest of your body.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You can be wide awake and it's just like adrenaline and testosterone running. Yeah, well, I've seen it was and also give me a reason to beat your ass. That's really what it was. That is the real reason of like hit me first, give me a fucking reason. He did yours.
SPEAKER_06Johnny had already gotten a few shots at it.
SPEAKER_03But he was just giving me more of a reason.
SPEAKER_04Like he was like, I need more inspiration in this fight, you pansy ass bitch.
SPEAKER_06Well, I'm gonna tell you something. Uh, in my opinion, with that old storyline, Johnny had plenty of reason to kick the shit out of Ronnie. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So that's my last one. Okay. Well, let's I have to pee. So let's get through these back shitting or back bullshitting on the back lot.
SPEAKER_06Don't go fucking blowing up the bathroom and just clean it up.
SPEAKER_03No, I no. I am a lady.
SPEAKER_06Oh my ass. I don't poop. Please.
SPEAKER_03That's what I tell my husband. And actually, what my husband tells himself.
SPEAKER_06Don't bullshit a bullshitter.
SPEAKER_05All right.
SPEAKER_06The only shitting I do is bullshitting. Yeah. Okay, we'll go with that. You want me to go first? Yeah. All right. Bullshitting on the back lot. Patrick Swayze was offered a cool six million to return for a sequel, but turned it down due to not being a fan of sequels, which is funny because apparently he makes a cameo in Dirty Dancing Havana Nights, which our mutual friend who we love so much, she's watched it. I've never seen it. She says, Is it um is it 10 pounds of shit in a five-pound bag?
SPEAKER_03Uh it's pretty bad. There is actually a a movie that was dirty dancing-esque. I can't think of it. I just I just had this thought right now.
SPEAKER_06But the mighty ducks.
SPEAKER_03No, close. Uh, but uh it was it had Johnny Depp's ex-wife. She was French, not Amber Heard, not that bitch. Ugh. Um, but it was his beautiful, beautiful French wife he had. I think uh they have their son Jack uh together, and I don't know, maybe another child.
SPEAKER_06Who did he have Lily Rose with then?
SPEAKER_03Um I don't I think it was this French. I mean, he was married to this French model actress for a while, but she was in it, and it was a kind of like a French version, modern version of dirty dancing, and that actually was very cute, very good. I really enjoyed it. Okay. I mean, it didn't have the soundtrack. That of Dirty Dancing, but I totally appreciated it. I loved it. And it was way better than Havana Nights that was associated with freaking dirty dancing.
SPEAKER_06Okay.
SPEAKER_04But yeah, that's my spiel.
SPEAKER_06Alright. See, I was under the assumption that he had like an actual part in this movie, but I guess he just has a cameo in Havana Nights.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's honestly been so long I don't remember.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I mean he could be in the movie for three minutes and that counts as a cameo.
SPEAKER_03True. Patrick Swayze co-wrote and performed the hit ballad She's Like the Wind for the soundtrack. He originally wrote it for a different movie, but played it for the director and he loved it.
SPEAKER_06What the hell movie did he write it for then?
SPEAKER_03I don't know.
SPEAKER_06Alright.
SPEAKER_03She's like the wind.
SPEAKER_06Alright, next up, since you gotta piss like a racehorse, apparently this is the first film to sell a million copies on home video. That I did not know. That actually um that surprised me. It really did.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Well I would have thought many movies have seen.
SPEAKER_03When you think something's not a classic, it would be surprising.
SPEAKER_06Well, I'm just saying, I'm like, out of all the movies when home video started to become an actual thing, this is the one that hit the million, the the million mark. Really?
SPEAKER_03As it should. Okay. As it should. Rewind, rewind.
SPEAKER_06You're up there there.
SPEAKER_03Um yes, the actors uh actually additioned and rehearsed their dance skills to standard 1960s track tapes. The music drove the choreography before the actual score was finalized. So they were dancing before the score uh like the awesome soundtrack came out.
SPEAKER_08Okay.
SPEAKER_03They were dancing to this. And they had the I mean, to match that up and timing, that's pretty impressive.
SPEAKER_06All right. Uh, this one, Little Dark. Jennifer Gray was about to embark on a publicity tour to promote the film when her and then b uh then boyfriend Matthew Broderick were in a car accident in Ireland. Unfortunately, this resulted in the death of a mother and her daughter.
SPEAKER_03So tragic.
SPEAKER_06And it's you know it's just one of those things where you know it's really was not anyone's fault. I've never been to Ireland. I have a friend of mine who has, and he says driving over there, like if driving when you're not used to that in any of those countries.
SPEAKER_03My mom, I don't know how she did it and survived, to be honest. Yeah uh in Italy, but she did it, so I can only imagine the country roads in Ireland.
SPEAKER_06Exactly. Yeah, if you're if unless you're in like a you know in town or in a major city, like the roads probably seem about as wide as this table.
SPEAKER_03So sad, so sad.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it really was terrible.
SPEAKER_03All right, after your sad stuff, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, let's let's let's bring it back up here, please.
SPEAKER_03Well, I don't know. Um it's just it's just a fact. Like it's Val Kilmer was originally offered the role of Johnny Castle, but turned it down, which I watched a snippet of an interview with Seth Rogan comparing the difference of Hollywood of like um the time, you know, when he was doing super bad versus what it is to take to do a movie now, which I guess to do a movie now, you have to have everything in place before you take it to anybody. So back then it was more, you know, you had this script and this idea, and they're like, make that movie. And so you're getting this budget, and then you have to find your actors and you have to do that. And you have these like magical little tidbits that we love that are on the DVDs and the you know, extra stuff that we love to click on. And those little tidbits I feel like are going few and far between because of Hollywood is just such business, business, business and less art.
SPEAKER_06So oh yeah, a lot of people out there just want to make money, I guess.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, I just love the fact that you know, oh, Val Kilmer was gonna do this, but he turned it down, and like what a difference that would have made in the movie. Can we imagine?
SPEAKER_06I I can't. I just I'm sorry, I can't. That I cannot see. But it's like with it's like with any other movie when you find out, like, oh, this guy, you know, was that their first choice. He was like fourth or fifth, and all these other actors were ahead of him, and it's like, uh, sorry, I can't see anyone but Patrick Swayze playing Johnny Castle.
SPEAKER_03I can no longer wait to pee.
SPEAKER_06Oh, all right.
SPEAKER_03Um I've reached the brink, so you could edit this out. Because I'm gonna go pee.
SPEAKER_06All right, fine.
SPEAKER_03Or you can continue with your facts.
SPEAKER_06All right, how long do you think you're gonna be?
SPEAKER_04Just a second.
SPEAKER_06All right, yeah, just just go and I'm just gonna keep talking. Yeah, just please just trash my studio while you're at it. If you've got a piss that bad.
SPEAKER_04If I can get out of your space podcast.
SPEAKER_06Well, that's not my fault. All right, so man, this is uh this is actually weird. This is the first time I've ever been behind the microphone, just me by myself, um talking to myself, which honestly is something I legitimately do pretty much all the damn time. Been caught a number of times talking to myself, and honestly, the older I get, the less I care. So I'm just gonna keep talking here um until Megan gets back from taking a piss. Because I don't I don't like pausing once we're going and once we're doing our thing and all that stuff. It's just lame. And then I gotta patch it and I gotta fade out and fade back in. And don't nobody want to deal with any of that bullshit. So anyway, I think what I'll do, because I don't know really what to talk about at this point. Um, I guess I'll just go ahead and say my my next part of bullshit on the backlot, and Megan will just have to deal. Besides, she's got a like a whole shit ton of these here, so she can do a lot of the talking. She is my co-host after all, so that just kind of comes with the territory. So I guess uh Patrick Swayze's brother, Don, Don Swayze, for all you True Blood fans out there, uh he was in season three, and he was one of the werewolves. Honestly, if you've seen it or if you're gonna watch it after hearing this, I'm telling you right now, he's not hard to miss. I mean, first time I saw the episode he was in, I was like, holy shit, is that Don Swayze? Holy shit, she's back. Damn, okay there, piss girl. Excellent. You washed your hands, right? Yeah, gross.
SPEAKER_03And I did gross if you could.
SPEAKER_06Always excellent.
SPEAKER_03All right, like your amazing soap.
SPEAKER_06All right, yeah, that was uh that actually wasn't too bad.
SPEAKER_03I mean, racehorse status.
SPEAKER_04Like, I felt like I would have run the won the Kentucky Derby there.
SPEAKER_06Fantastic. Anyway, I was just saying to our Megheads and Megheads that uh Patrick Swayze's brother Don Swayze said on a talk show that his brother is actually a much better dancer than what is shown in the film.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I believe it.
SPEAKER_06It's like, holy shit, Patrick Swayze, you were pulling back. Yeah, I I believe it. So, yeah, so it was uh actually really interesting since his dance moves in the film are incredible, in my opinion.
SPEAKER_03I agree.
SPEAKER_06Yep. Sigh. Sigh. You actually have sigh written here. Uh in Europe.
SPEAKER_03I wanted to make sure that he knew how much I was going to ooh in awe over Patrick Sweezy. Oh, he knows.
SPEAKER_06Even in death, he knows. Trust me.
SPEAKER_03Uh, let's see. Jennifer Gray had exactly five minutes to showcase in her audition that she could embody a 17-year-old despite her being a 27-year-old woman.
SPEAKER_06All right. Cool. Was that for Harvey Weinstein? I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.
SPEAKER_03Probably went into like a special collection. Let's be honest. Gross.
SPEAKER_06He's so gross.
SPEAKER_03He is gross.
SPEAKER_06Jason Priestley, where are you when we need you? All right. Uh, the last one for me, Patrick Swayze had to put some work in to convince Jennifer Gray to do this movie. This is due to them not getting along during production of the movie Red Dawn, which came out a few years earlier, and we have got to do an episode on that.
SPEAKER_03Red Dawn. Wolverine! Red Dawn, Red Dawn. Was that wait, no, I'm gonna say it wrong. So I'm not even gonna try. Why don't you tell me what that is?
SPEAKER_06Red Dawn is the movie where um basically I don't know if it's World War III breaks out.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_06But the United States gets invaded.
SPEAKER_03And it's China, right?
SPEAKER_06Uh no. It's um, well, in the original one, the the good one, it's uh Russia. Okay. Like it's the part where like all these Russian paratroopers wind up right right outside the school and just open fire with their AKs and shit. Um, so it's Russia. Actually, in that movie, China's on our side. Okay, but yeah, like Sandinistas or something like that come up from South America through Mexico and invade like the southern border, and then Russia somehow gets by and they invade, and there's like there's like free America like right in the middle of the country or some shit. Yeah, I'd have to watch it again. Cuba is in on the shit. Yeah. Obviously, they're not on our side, so yeah. They did a remake, and my buddy and I were watching it a long time ago, and it was it was with uh Hemsworth and Josh Peck was in it, and I just I I'm not a fan of him at all. He sucks. But yeah, the remake was was North Korea. North Korea invaded us.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_06The remake was a piece of shit. We never finished watching it, and he's like, dude, we gotta finish watching it. I'm like, no, no, we we don't, we really don't. I I saw enough, trust me. All right, you're up.
SPEAKER_03Um, my last one that I have, Winona Writer and Sarah Jessica Parker, both auditioned and were both considered to play baby before Jennifer got the part.
SPEAKER_06Thank God.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think I mean, you know, it's hard to think of what this movie would be like with a different, you know, star in it, but I just feel like they just made all the right choices. I love Jennifer Gray in this film.
SPEAKER_06I agree. So now that we've completed our bullshitting on the back lot, the BS on the BL. Yeah, it is time for the Manhattan scale. This is the part where Megan and I determine in our own opinions, because obviously our opinions are going to vary on this one, how many Manhattans or drink of choice this movie gets. For me, it's a Manhattan. For Megan, it's clearly a Michelob Ultra Lime Cactus Barf.
SPEAKER_03It is, it is my drink. I put down here margs, but let's be real. I never have a marg in here. Yeah. Megan keeps promising me things. Yeah, but I'm not, I'm not, I don't have an expectation.
SPEAKER_06Megan is also about themes. So if a margarita fits the theme, she'll do it.
SPEAKER_03Ah, she is a theme coach.
SPEAKER_06You got you gotta let her know these things. She'll help you out, I guarantee it.
SPEAKER_03She can listen to this podcast and find out.
SPEAKER_06Do you want to go first? You want to uh determine how many movies or how many lime cactuses?
SPEAKER_03I will I will do that. Um 4.8. Uh, because I enjoyed rewatching this. I danced to all the songs and stopped and clutched my necklace. I have to tell you, I clutched my necklace when Johnny had his hands all over, baby, and said aloud to myself, Good God, that man is so sexy. Yeah. I was born a year before this movie was made, and I'm 40-year-old, and I had the time of my life watching this.
SPEAKER_04Like, you see what I did there?
SPEAKER_06Is that is that a pun? Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the time of my life. I had the time of my life.
SPEAKER_06I didn't like it. I loved it. I love I loved what you did there. Okay. You gave it 4.8. Ouch. Um, okay, so after watching this a few times for this episode, I will honestly say, no bullshit, because we're done with that. I have come to realize that it's not quite the pure na poem on the sentence that I thought it was. However, I will say that I don't particularly enjoy this movie. I don't like it, but I don't hate it or even dislike it. So there you go. That's where I'm sitting. So for me, this movie gets one Manhattan.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I I can see that for that. That's good.
SPEAKER_06I mean, at least at least it didn't get a shot of fireball.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_06It gets one manhattan. No, I don't worry.
SPEAKER_03Is that like going into your dislikes if you're having fireball?
SPEAKER_06If a movie gets a shot of fireball, which is it's yet to happen, but let's face it, it's it's going to. It's just a matter of time. If it gets a shot of fireball.
SPEAKER_03Especially with me as your co-host, let's be honest. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Definitely. If it gets a shot of fireball, you know the movie's a real piece of shit. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. I remember one time I was up at the at a local watering hole. Mm-hmm. And then I had a few cold ones in me at this point in time. And a grown man goes up to the bar and says, Yeah, can I get uh a couple of bud lights and a couple of shots of fireball? I looked over and said, Fireball? Somebody going through menopause? Yeah. Cranberry juice, what are you on? Your period? My girlfriend drinks it when she's on a period. It's a natural diuretic. What is it? Your period.
SPEAKER_03Can't wait to do that film.
SPEAKER_06Oh. Oh, that's that also is only a matter of time.
SPEAKER_03I want to be at my like peak performance for the departed.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Same here. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So we need to cut this shit down.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Because we get we got a lot of cover to that in that one. We might have to actually go into that one 100% sober.
SPEAKER_03Oh, and maybe a part two. I don't know. We'll see. Yeah, we might. The departed is great.
SPEAKER_06It is. It's fantastic film.
SPEAKER_03It's fantastic.
SPEAKER_06All right, you glorious Megheads and Megheads. It's time for our least favorite part of the show. The part where we say that's a wrap and close down production for the time being. As always, we want to thank each and every one of you for listening. We appreciate you more than you could possibly know. Also, like always, if you'd like to send us any fan mail, you can do so by hitting the send us fan mail link in the show notes or email us at the cinematicmick at gmail.com. And believe us when we say that, we'd love to hear from you. Either a text or voicemail. Honestly, I gotta say I would prefer voicemail because I'd love to actually hear what you've got to say. But if you want to text us, that's fine too. You can listen to the Cinematic Make podcast on Spotify, iHeartRadio, and Apple Podcasts. I have in here to chat it up with Megan for a little bit, but if you've got anything you want to say, you got nothing?
SPEAKER_03I got nothing. I left it all out there. It was great.
SPEAKER_06Oh, you were fantastic, bud. Well, until then, always remember that if baby is ever being an asshole, stick her ass in the corner and never ever end with the bachanga. Good night, everybody.
SPEAKER_03Why?
SPEAKER_06I had the idea earlier, why not?
